first year at bay of islands college

My first year at bay of Islands School started with excitement and a little nervousness. The classrooms were bright and colorful, on me first day, i met my whanau teacher who made you feel welcome and helped me find my place.

i made new friends quickly during playtime cause i knew people from sport.   By the end of the year, I felt confident and happy at school. I had learned a lot, made friends, and enjoyed being part of the Bay of Islands college, we are also going to win athletics next year cause our new year is better. Im also in this house called Kowhai, our colour is yellow and we have the best year 9 class that wins every inter house comps

dissection blog

During the calf heart dissection, I felt a mix of nerves and curiosity. Once we began, I found it fascinating to see the heart’s chambers, valves, and blood vessels up close, since it helped me understand more than just looking at diagrams. Working with my group reminded me how important teamwork and safety are in the lab. Overall, the dissection was a bit challenging at first, but it really helped me appreciate how complex and amazing the heart is.

social studies

In Social Studies, I have learnt about many different topics. In Term 1, we studied the upcoming Waitangi Day and the New Zealand Wars. We learnt that the Treaty of Waitangi, signed in 1840 between the British Crown and Māori chiefs, is considered New Zealand’s founding document. It established British sovereignty and allowed Māori to participate in the new nation.

We also learnt about the Northern Wars. As part of this topic, all Year 9 students went on two trips. We visited the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, Ruapekapeka, St Michael’s Catholic Church in Ōhaeawai, and Russell. Because there are so many of us, we split into groups — Kowhai went with Totara, and Kauri went with Miro and Rata.

In class, we have also learnt about other important topics, such as refugees and migration. We discussed why people might leave their countries, such as escaping war, natural disasters, or persecution. We also learnt about the challenges refugees face when starting a new life in another country, and heard stories of migrants to New Zealand that helped us understand their experiences and contributions.

Mushroom project.

In my year 9 English class we had a project about mushrooms and what we did on that topic was a lot of writing,  watering mushrooms/fungi. we also made a slide about our mushrooms, our mushroom was also called Zesty boy. we were also supposed to eat them but they all went rotten. Matariki night market🌃

Wednesday of week 9 Kawakawa Primary School hosted a night market were all the classes had to make some art work or lollies and to sell. After I left the night market with Cruz and Devin we went down town  and i shouted Cruz 2 pies and a sprite because he brought no money 💀. I also walked to Devin’s and he had money and tons of lollies and then when we left Devin’s house I took all the lollies so he had no more. After that we went to the dairy  and bought three drinks and heaps of lollies we then walked to the school just before the performance and that was how my night went.🛀
